Rhythm vocabulary

Compás
The measure. Vals is in 3/4: three beats, counted 1-2-3, with the first one accented. This grid is two compases long.
Base rhythm Pulse
Stepping only on beat 1 of each compás and pausing through 2 and 3. Dancing a whole vals this way is always musical.
Double time 1-2 and 3-1
Adding one extra step inside the compás, either on beat 2 or on beat 3.
